The Rick Eighme Memorial tournament this weekend will be using the 2012 USBC Nationals Pattern.

Welcome to the
Greater Iowa Bowling Association

February 13, 2012

Good Afternoon,

The Rick Eighme Memorial 10 gamer is worth double points so there will be opportunity for some swings in the final point standings. Thanks to the generous support of Brunswick and Jason Guest, we will have prizes for at least the top 10 spots on the final point list. Also, our last event of the season on March 4th at Highland Park in Moline, IL. The Bob Neff Memorial Triple Elimination tournament features a unique format and another opportunity to bowl on this year´s USBC nationals pattern in tournament competition.

Now for the important information regarding the Rick Eighme Memorial tournament. I will do my best to make this easy to understand, but it is a bit complicated so if you have questions please contact me and I will do my best to answer them. Everyone is eligible to bowl this tournament. In the past we limited participation to only those bowlers who had bowled at least 4 of our previous events or 3 previous events and payment of an additional $25.00 entry fee. What we are doing for our regular members is offering a separate prize fund for this tournament. In order to be eligible for this special prize fund, bowlers must meet certain criteria. Those members who have paid their $10.00 membership fee and have bowled at least 4 of our prior events this season can enter the special prize fund for a $10.00 entry fee. Those members who have paid their $10.00 membership fee and have bowled at least 3 of our prior events this season have two choices to enter the special prize fund, either pay an additional $35.00 or sign up for the Triple Elimination tournament on March 4th and pay the $10.00 entry fee. Members who have only bowled 2 of our prior events can still enter the special prize fund by signing up for the Triple Elimination and paying a $35.00 entry fee. There are currently 56 members who have at least 4 tournaments bowled, another 27 who have bowled at least 3, and around 50 who have bowled at least 2. You must pay or have paid your $10.00 membership fee also in order to be eligible for the special prize fund.

The special prize fund is made up of funds from membership fees, bracket proceeds from previous tournaments during the season, and sponsor support. There is currently almost $3000.00 in the fund so I anticipate around $3500.00 being paid out to those who enter in a ratio of 1:3. The top prize should be around $500.00 with a last cash around $75.00. Of course, the numbers will be dependent on how many enter and how much additional money we collect to go into the fund. No expenses will be taken from the entry fees.

The prize list for the Rick Eighme tournament is already a good one so there will be a nice opportunity to cash in for decent amounts from this tournament. I want to be sure everyone who is eligible to bowl for the special prize fund has the chance so take a look at the points list. Find your name on the list and check to make sure you have been given credit for every tournament you bowled. You should either have a number of points awarded or a X in the box for each tournament you bowled. If you think I missed a tournament for you, please let me know and I will verify.

I am looking for a big turnout for the Rick Eighme Memorial tournament and I already have 25 names on the list so let me know if you plan on bowling. We do not have an entry limit for this tournament since we have 50 lanes available.

Good Afternoon,

I have not yet received the results from Fort Dodge since I was unable to be there myself, but I will send those out to you as soon as possible after I get them. We have several tournaments coming up over the next month and a half to close out our GIBA season. It has been an extremely successful year for us due to the great support from our members, bowling centers, and sponsors. We have increased entries by a significant number for pretty much every tournament this season so thanks to all of you for that. We have 4 more events on the GIBA schedule so I hope we can close out the season in style.

The annual Cherry Lanes/GIBA team tournament will be held on Saturday, January 28th in Dubuque at Cherry Lanes, and it will be followed the next day with the annual GIBA Doubles tournament also held at Cherry Lanes. We are limited to 26 teams for the team tournament, and 39 teams for the doubles. We do still have room for entries in both tournaments so let me know if you would like to reserve spots.

Our final points tournament this season will be the Rick Eighme Memorial 10 Game sweeper held on February 26th at Cadillac Lanes in Waterloo. We are going to do something a bit different for this tournament since it is our final point tournament. There will be the normal regular prize fund , and any bowler can enter the tournament. In addition, we will have a supplemental prize fund for those members who have bowled at least 4 of our events previously this season. This prize fund will pay out in a ratio of 1:3, and it should be at least $2500.00 this year. Members who have bowled 3 prior events can also pay an additional amount of $25.00 to compete for the supplemental prizes. I will have more information on who is eligible for the supplemental fund early next month. This is something new we wanted to try this season, and I will be interested in your input as to how it works out.

The last event on our schedule is being held on March 4th at Highland Park in Moline, IL. It is Chuck Schuette´s annual Bob Neff Memorial Triple Elimination tournament. Chuck also plans a Saturday sweeper event that weekend for those who want to make a two tournament weekend out of it.

Thanks again for your support of the GIBA, and I look forward to seeing many of you this weekend in Dubuque.
